Why Aren't Water Wells Built in Gaza?

Building water wells is not the most effective solution for Gaza's current situation because:

  • Much of Gaza's groundwater is contaminated and unsafe for drinking.

  • Ongoing conflict makes the construction, and maintenance of water wells extremely challenging.

  • Potable water allows life-saving assistance to reach affected families more quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

The campaign is managed by Pertubuhan Peduli Insan in Malaysia together with trusted local partners in Yemen, Syria, Malawi, and Gaza. The projects are then carried out on the ground by local teams, while our team in Malaysia handles coordination, monitoring, and reporting to donors.
The construction of the water well usually takes about two months from the project implementation date. Because some preparation is needed to be done before the construction can start.
Each water well is designed to suit the needs of the local community. In Yemen and Syria, the wells come with solar-powered pumps, a 12-cubic-meter storage tank, and 8 water taps, serving more than 600 people. In Malawi, the wells are built with a manual pump to ensure easier access and maintenance for rural communities.
At the moment, water well construction is not carried out in Gaza. Instead, we provide clean drinking water assistance to families in need.
